It’s funny how history literally repeats itself. Especially so when it comes to our clothes. Where once these sandals were worn by beefy alpha males slugging it out in the Roman ampitheatre, now they’re the perfect companion to breezy dresses, skirts, shorts and bermuda capris. I’m talking about the gladiator sandals, of course…

Tod’s Gladiator Sandals. Would look great with white dresses or skirts.

Roberto Cavalli’s Gold Thong sandals. This looks very glam and very nice.

Urban Outfitter’s braided sandals. This looks very girly and whimsical. It reminds me of Rachel Bilson.

Another one from UO. I like the peep toe and strappy things.

Topshop’s 100% leather gladiator sandals. I’m looking out for this one in stores. Oh, wait. I have these in silver. Woops.

Topshop’s T-bar sandals. I like this, although it looks a tad manly and plain. Also, the T-design makes it look very bare – so bare that I don’t think I’m wearing sandals at all. Heh.

A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz dress. Isn’t it adorable? Especially in the second pic. With a black bangle and from that angle. But it’s ridiculous to stand like that all the time, right?

Of late, I’ve taken a huge liking to drooling at pretty Spring dresses. A quick browse at shopbop and urbanoutfitters will make me want to get all the dresses they offer. If only I could. *stomps around* For now, I’ll make do with sharing some of the trends for dresses this Spring season…

Let’s start off with eyelets! Haha, I’m really crazy over this fabric cos of its pretty effect. They’re like cut-outs or holes, if you wish, on simple fabric and most offer floral or simple cut-outs. And given its intricate design, its a rather expensive fabric I believe.

This breezy C&C piece is such a beauty. Lightweight fabric with sweet eyelets and a pair of puffy sleeves.

This white eyelet piece from Vince is simply adorable!! Square neckline, puffed sleeves and a banded hem. Pairing it with those camel stacked heels totally completed the whole look. Kudos to the stylists at shopbop.

Next trend: Dresses with pockets! I was watching a short clip on MTV’s Overdrive where Marc and Amanda from my favourite show of the moment Ugly Betty were dishing out the must-haves for Spring this year and yep, dresses with pockets was one of them. 🙂 Really convenient AND stylish.

Babydoll, laced and with pockets. Vince at shopbop.

Jumper, big buttons, ribbed chest, with pocket. Lux at UO.

Trapeze silhouette, simple tunic tank, bright colour, with pockets. Lux at UO.

Ruched bust, muted grey, with pockets. Yet another Lux at UO.

My most favourite of the lot. Empire cut, trapeze swingy silhouette, paired with a tee, and of cos, with pockets! 😀 By Samantha Treacy at shopbop.

I was watching an old episode of The Tyra Show just now and she featured some hot young designers to look out for. Although the designers didn’t really look, erm, young, their creations were really commendable. The first designer struck me the most. Robert Rodriguez (a name that already sounds so fashionable) has some of the simplest yet flattering creations. I couldn’t find the exact navy blue dress that the model on the show wore but judging from these two below, I conclude he makes really pretty but modern twists of the LBD…

I love the ruffled effect on the first – not too much nor too little. And the second – did I tell you I completely adore eyelets? And the scoopneck and puffy sleeves do the trick. Available on revolveclothing and eluxury respectively.

Oh ya, the girls from The Hills – LC, Whitney and Audrina – were all present in the above-mentioned episode of The Tyra Show. Whitney, as usual, looked stunning, as they each gave comments after a ‘runway show’.  I can’t wait for The Hills 3 to premiere.

Someone please get this sweet and lovely satin-ruffled blouse from Target! Created for Target especially by Iranian-born, European-based designer Behnaz Sarafpour, this top is a total steal at only US$17.99. I’m not really liking the ivory one but the black is a must-have. Too bad I’m running low on funds after binge-online-purchasing during these exam periods. 😦

I was greeted in the papers with news that yet another model has died from anorexia. It’s really a sad and disturbing world, the fashion industry. And to make it worse, it’s usually the less well-known and less successful ones who are brought to light. This doesnt seem to make the situation any better, does it?

Ana Carolina Reston, a Brazilian, died at the age of 21. She apparently only ate tomatoes and apples. After this Armani shoot, crew members were complaining she was too thin. Indeed.

Luisel Ramos, a Uruguayan, died at the age of 22. She only survived only on diet Coke and green leafy veggies. Gosh.

I think it’s even sadder top fashion designers refuse to acknowledge some responsibility on their part when they make clothes in such ridiculous sizes most of the time. That’s my only peeve about the fashion world. Shrugs.

If you’ve been reading our blog for quite some time, you would know how we both adore puffy/ruched sleeves. Grins. So it’s good to know that the trend is set to stay. Karl Lagerfield released his 2007 spring/summer ready-to-wear collections and it was heartening to see those wonderful sleeves on display!

Ignore the tacky lacey tights and bad hairdo. I simply adore the top. Come to think of it, some tops from Forever 21 are similar to this. 🙂 The shiny metallic cloth adds more edge to it.

This is more wearable. Same concept. Puffed sleevs, ruches at neckline. Such a sweet babydoll top.

Of all the three, the sleeves here are more exaggerated. It gives such a nice willowy effect. SW and I once tried on a similar top with such batwing-cum-puffed sleeves at Topshop but it just ended up looking ridiculous on us. :S

Oh wells, expect Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 to come up with good copies of these, if they haven’t already done so.
